Designing and 3D Printing a Nerf Gun.

This is the design I did in NX 7.5 for a Nerf Gun that fires from an existing Nerf magazine. The design is rather simple and it is very plausible that this gun will work once 3D printed. The design process was rather simple. I will be releasing the plans on Thingiverse once this model is completed.

The gun is being printed on a Makerbot Replicator 2 for the main shell (to save money on material and give me the option of making it orange), and the remainder of the parts that need more precise supports are being printed on a UPrint SE Plus. The Material for the interior tubing is ABS, and the external shell is PLA.

It didn’t go super well.

I did a small 1:3 test to see how the gun would fit together. It didn’t go as well as I expected it to, as the filaments were too weak to assemble the gun without cracking it.

Here’s hoping my remaining prints go well!

Update: I turned in this project, and while it didn’t work as fluidly as a normal NERF gun, it did certainly chamber and fire. It didn’t have a good enough seal to push out a dart. This was more of a 3D printing methodology error, but my designs had errors too, and overall it was still a good learning experience.
